This mountain contemporary family getaway was designed by Architecture Allure in collaboration with Alice Lane Interior Design, located in Lake Tahoe, California. Created for a family of six, the homeowner’s main priority for their 5,500-square-foot home was to accommodate overnight guests. Their top request was to design a large bunk room with eight built-in bunks for their four kids, along with their friends and cousins.

The bunk room was constructed over the garage to keep the noise separated from the rest of the house. With family entertaining in mind, the architect placed devised a floor plan with a central gathering space, along with a play area/media room, a large kitchen, along with two first-level main bedroom suites to host a continual flow of guests.

What We Love: This mountain contemporary getaway offers a family a wonderful haven for gathering with loved ones in a pristine environment. Spread out over two levels, the project team devised a floor plan for spaces to come together and spaces for privacy. Best of all, they designed a space over the garage for the kids to play to their hearts’ content! Overall, a beautifully designed home with a lot of warmth and character throughout.

Above: The designer created a theme-park-style bunk room that comes complete with a teepee where everyone wants to hang out. From the throw pillows to the bunk bed railings, every detail in this room was inspired by local native pottery. To save space, access to the top bunks was designed using forged iron rails and a custom cut-out step system. The core of this space is used for play.
